One of the fatal flaws of a college student in this day and age, is living in a perminent stage of semi brokeness. Ive only been in school for a few weeks so I'm not yet feeling the full effects of said brokeness but I am readily assured that the side effects will come sooner or later. Even having a job I feel the need to save my money and act like the typical "Broke college student."
Surprisingly nothing has happened differently really. In high school I lived in a permanent state of brokeness even though I usually had a job. I saved all the money and instead of being like some of the rich girls im friends with now who might have to cut down on their weekly coffee bill. I'm on the other side of the spectrum, splurging on a cup of coffee with a friend every once and a while.
My boyfriend introduced me to coffee shops in high school when the majority of our dates took place there. I developed a small repertoire of things I liked and didn't like. I don't like anything from Starbucks. If I'm forced to go there i suppose that their drinks aren't horrible, Its mostly the idea of Starbucks that i dislike. The over-corperate brand that just makes me feel fake. I like the small coffee shops, particularly the one in my home town. They'll let you sit there all day if you buy a cup of apple cider for 2.50 or a cookie for a dollar. Good for the broke hipster students.
My time working at Panera taught me of Caramel lattes and Chi Tea. and mark my words that Panera has hands down the best Chi Tea I have ever had, Starbucks's Chi sucks.
And Im a die hard fan of green tea, Iced especially, a few pumps of lavender or pomegranate syrup makes it a wonderful drink for the summer.
So anyway return to me at school where Im studying now in the library, I haven't been to the Expresso Royal yet. (the predominate coffee chain here in Champaign) and Ashley encouraged me to get a drink there.
So i chose a Green tea latte which was probably the worst decision I've made all week. Not only did they not honor the sign behind them that said "Large drinks for the price of a medium on sundays" but the drink is just bad. Im only still drinking it because 4.26 of my hard earned dish washing money was spent on it. Thats half an hour of work for a crappy 20oz cup of warm milk with a veggie aftertaste. uck.
Next time I'm going to stick with a caramel latte. No coffee shop can ruin a caramel latte.
xoxo,
Dana
